York police charge 2 men after high speed chase in Lamborghini | CBC News

York police have charged two men with several offences after a high speed chase through multiple cities that began when officers saw a white Lamborghini speeding at more than 200 km/h.

Police said on July 7 at around 12:50 a.m., officers saw the Lamborghini Urus travelling on Highway 407 near Dufferin Street in Vaughan. A police helicopter unit took over following the car from above, it said in a news release Friday.

The helicopter then followed the car to a residential street in the area of Leslie Street and Summerdale Drive in Markham. When officers tried to stop the vehicle, the suspect drove away, police said.

The car then hit a “tire deflation device” police had deployed on the road and the vehicle lost a tire. It still continued to speed away on Highway 407 and ended up in another residential neighbourhood in the area of Red Maple Road and Oneida Crescent in Richmond Hill, police said.

Officers tried to block the vehicle with their cruisers, but the suspect rammed into the police vehicles and again drove away, the news release said.

The Lamborghini continued west on Highway 407 and ended up in an industrial area in Brampton. The suspects left their car and tried to flee the area in the vehicle of an accomplice, police said.

While trying to arrest everyone in the vehicle, the vehicle drove over an officer’s foot, police said. The car was stopped and both suspects were taken into custody.

A 21-year-old man was charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle, fleeing police and failure to stop after an accident. A 22- year-old man was charged with assaulting a police officer with a weapon.

Investigators are asking any witnesses to contact them.
