Yellowknife stores holding ‘mini shop hop’ on Thursday

At least a dozen downtown Yellowknife retailers will join a one-day sale with late opening hours on Thursday, May 30.

The “mini summer shop hop” runs from 12pm till 7pm. You can find the list of participating stores – including Cabin Radio, and we have new T-shirts available, just sayin’ – on the event’s Facebook page.

“It’s a bunch of downtown businesses. We get together and go, ‘OK, it’s time to do something to remind people that we’re all here and could use your business,’” said Signed’s Janet Pacey, a coordinator of the shop hop.

Past events have included passports where customers could collect stamps from different stores to enter prize draws.

This time around, there’s none of that – but there is the promise of discounted items as you head from store to store.

“We’re having a mini version this time as opposed to the big version. There’s no passport, you don’t have to run around two million different businesses. But we want you to know everybody’s having a sale and it’s going to be a great night,” said Pacey.

“It’s really nice to get new people into your store that wouldn’t necessarily maybe come If there weren’t a sale,” said Vicki Tompkins, who runs For Women Only.

“I really enjoy doing what I do, talking to people all day. The shop hop is a really fun way to see a lot of people in one day.”
