The Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2024 is scheduled for June 10, and it’s set to showcase what might be Apple’s most significant software update to date.

The anticipation surrounding iOS 18 is fuelled by leaks, but a confirmed major feature is the introduction of an artificial intelligence service called ‘Apple Intelligence.’

This optional beta feature in iOS 18 will be compatible with iPhone 15 and newer models, requiring significant data processing power.

What do we know about ‘Apple Intelligence’?

Thus far there are relatively few details on just what the key features of Apple Intelligence, however there has been a number of leaks which have suggested just what we can expect.

Here’s what the leaks have intimated will be included:

  • An updated Siri with better integration with third-party apps, shortcuts, and improved understanding.
  • Photo editing capabilities.
  • Generation of responses for emails and messaging.
  • Enhanced Safari searches.
  • Custom emoji creation.

Another noteworthy update in iOS 18 involves the RCS text protocol, allowing users to see indicators and read receipts in cross-platform conversations, facilitating smoother interactions between iOS and Android users.

Despite joining the AI landscape later than others, Apple is aiming for success by partnering with OpenAI, an industry leader currently developing a chatbot for them.

However, these details remain speculative until officially confirmed, as Apple look to keep as many of the major details of their future plans close to their chest.

How can you watch the WWDC event live?

The WWDC event, which has been held annually in June since 2007, will take place from June 10-14, 2024. The event can be watched online, as in-person attendance is limited to developers and winners of the Swift Student Challenge.
