Works report: 10 graded-stakes winners are on the tab

Pretty Mischievous, winner of three Grade 1 stakes last year but 0-for-2 this year, has been working at Churchill Downs since finishing third last out in the Ogden Phipps (G1).

Wednesday, the 4-year-old Into Mischief filly breezed four furlongs in 47.4 seconds, fifth fastest of 18 at the distance.

Trained by Brendan Walsh, Pretty Mischievous was the champion 3-year-old filly of 2023 after wins in the Kentucky Oaks (G1), Acorn (G1) and Test (G1). Then she was second by a half-length in the Cotillion (G1) before being scratched from the Breeders’ Cup Distaff.

Pretty Mischievous’s 2024 debut was a third-place effort in the La Troienne (G1) on a sloppy surface, which was not to her liking Walsh told BloodHorse. He also said she was hurt by the slow pace of the Ogden Phipps. Though he wasn’t sure of her next start, he said the goal again is the Breeders’ Cup Distaff.

It was the fifth fastest of 18 works at the distance. Her previous work was six days ago going four furlongs at Churchill Downs. In her last start she placed third in the Ogden Phipps (G1) going 1 1/8 miles on the main track at Saratoga on June 8 for trainer Brendan Walsh.

Stilleto Boy (Shackleford), a Grade 1 winner (2023 Santa Anita Handicap), worked three furlongs in 40.4 seconds at Turfway Park on Wednesday morning. It was the fifth fastest of five works at the distance. This was his first work since his last race. In his last start he placed seventh in the San Pasqual (G2) going 1 1/8 miles on the main track at Santa Anita on Jan. 27 for trainer Ed Moger Jr.

Evvie Jets (Twirling Candy), a Grade 2 winner (2023 Ballston Spa), worked four furlongs in 50.3 seconds at Saratoga on Wednesday morning. It was the 19th fastest of 20 works at the distance. Her previous work was eight days ago going four furlongs at Saratoga. In her last start she placed fourth in the Just a Game (G1) going one mile on the turf at Saratoga on June 7 for trainer Mertkan Kantarmaci.

Intricate (Gun Runner), a Grade 2 winner (2023 Golden Rod), worked four furlongs in 47.4 seconds at Churchill Downs on Wednesday morning. It was the fifth fastest of 18 works at the distance. This was her first work since her last race. In her last start she placed second in the Monomoy Girl Overnight going 1 1/16 miles on the main track at Churchill Downs on June 15 for trainer Brendan Walsh.

Chateau (Flat Out), a Grade 3 winner (2021 Tom Fool Handicap), worked four furlongs in 51.6 seconds at Belmont Park on Wednesday morning. It was the 51st fastest of 54 works at the distance. His previous work was 15 days ago going four furlongs at Belmont Park. In his last start he placed second in a claiming race going six furlongs on the main track at Belmont at the Big A on May 5 for trainer Rudy Rodriguez.

Daddysruby (Frac Daddy), a Grade 1 winner (2023 La Brea), worked three furlongs in 37.8 seconds at San Luis Rey on Tuesday morning. It was the faster of two works at the distance. Her previous work was seven days ago going five furlongs at San Luis Rey. In her last start she placed second in the Matron going six furlongs on the main track at Oaklawn on March 30 for trainer Peter Miller.

Foggy Night (Khozan), a Grade 3 winner (2023 Delaware Oaks), worked four furlongs in 48.7 seconds at Parx Racing on Tuesday morning. It was the 20th fastest of 41 works at the distance. Her previous work was eight days ago going four furlongs at Parx Racing. In her last start she placed fifth in the Mother Goose (G2) going 1 1/8 miles on the main track at Belmont at the Big A on Oct. 28 for trainer Butch Reid.

Magic Michael (Dramedy), a Grade 3 winner (2021 Greenwood Cup), worked four furlongs in 48.2 seconds at Delaware Park on Tuesday morning. It was the third fastest of 33 works at the distance. This was his first work since his last race. In his last start he placed fourth in an allowance race going 1 1/16 miles on the main track at Laurel Park on June 14 for trainer Jamie Ness.

Masen (Kingman), a Grade 3 winner (2022 Poker), worked four furlongs in 47.8 seconds at Keeneland on Tuesday morning. It was the eighth fastest of 76 works at the distance. His previous work was eight days ago going four furlongs at Keeneland. In his last start he placed eighth in the Danger’s Hour going one mile on the turf at Aqueduct on April 20 for trainer Chad Brown.

Promiseher America (American Pharoah), a Grade 3 winner (2023 Gazelle), worked four furlongs in 51.8 seconds at Laurel Park on Tuesday morning. It was the slowest of 10 works at the distance. This was her first work since her last race. In her last start she placed second in an allowance race going 1 1/16 miles on the turf at Laurel Park on June 9 for trainer Horacio De Paz.
