Women’s Golf Tops Mid-Major Rankings – Pepperdine University Athletics

MALIBU, Calif. – Reinforcing its status as a powerhouse of college women’s golf, the Pepperdine women’s golf team finished as the top mid-major in the nation on the final set of Scoreboard by Clippd national rankings.

“The Waves have been blessed with wonderful young ladies that worked very hard to maximize their talent to represent Pepperdine in competition with integrity and class,” said Head Coach Laurie Gibbs.  “Our program has benefited greatly from unlimited support from our athletic directors, presidents, deans, professors, athletic department staff, donors and parents.  We are very proud of all our student-athletes for their success in golf, business, as moms, alumni and as leaders in their community”.

The Waves have finished as the #1-ranked mid-major team 10 times since the 1999-2000 season, including this past 2023-24 campaign.  The next best team has finished atop the mid-majors ranks five times throughout that same duration.

Over those 25 years, Pepperdine has had 19 players earn 34 All-American accolades.  Fourteen players have garnered WGCA All-American Scholar acclaim 28 separate times.  Pepperdine teams have won 51 tournaments collectively and 50 players have posted individual victories.

Pepperdine was one of four mid-majors to make the NCAA Division I Championship finals site this season and the Waves went on to finish 19th through three rounds of action.  San Jose State (Mountain West) finished tied for 17th, while SMU and Tulsa (American) finished tied for 24th and tied for 26th respectively at the NCAA Tournament.  The Waves finished the year ranked #22 nationally, while SJSU, SMU and Tulsa finished #24, #26 and #41 respectively.

The team won four tournaments during the 2023-24 campaign, a feat that has been accomplished seven times in the record books and for the second-consecutive.  It is the second time in program history the Waves have won four or more tournaments in back-to-back seasons.
