Woman dead in Bowness; Calgary police homicide unit investigating

A woman is dead in the Calgary community of Bowness and her death is being investigated as “suspicious,” police say.

According to police, officers attended a home in the 4600 block of 73rd Street N.W., shortly after 1 p.m. on Tuesday.

There, they found an injured woman, who died despite efforts to save her.

About an hour later, officers led a visibly distraught man away in handcuffs.

As he was being put into the back of a police vehicle, he was crying and saying, “I didn’t do it, I didn’t do it.”

Crews from the medical examiner’s office removed the body from the home.

Police tape and cars remained on scene as forensic officers worked inside the home.

Homicide investigators have been called in.

An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.

“I looked outside and an old lady was bringing a child out in her arms and the cops took him from her and he had blood on his forehead and on his legs,” said one person who lives nearby.

“And then another kid came out and the cops took him, too.”

Residents in the area say this house has been frequently visited by police in the past and it wasn’t uncommon to hear shouting coming from the home.

Police are not providing additional details at this time.
