Woman charged with aggravated assault after infant injured
Yellowknife RCMP say they have charged a woman with aggravated assault after an infant was admitted to hospital with “life-altering” injuries.
RCMP said in a Monday press release they began investigating after the territorial health authority reported on April 24 that an infant was admitted to Stanton Territorial Hospital with injuries “of a suspicious nature.” The infant was transported to Edmonton for further treatment.
Police said they conducted the investigated with help from the NWT health authority and the Child and Adolescent Protection Centre in Edmonton.
RCMP said they arrested a 41-year-old woman, who they did not identify, and charged her with assault and aggravated assault on June 17.
They allege the woman assaulted the infant as well as a toddler who sustained less severe injuries.
RCMP are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact the Yellowknife detachment at 867-669-1111 or Crime Stoppers.
