Wimbledon: Roger Federer Sends Earnest Message to Kate Middleton Ahead of His Trip With Mirka and Children to SW19
Roger Federer has sent his wishes to Kate Middleton amid cancer battle. Earlier this year, the Princess of Wales underwent an abdominal surgery. Although initially it was stated to be non-cancerous, later on, post-operative tests found “cancer had been present“. She has been undergoing treatment for cancer after that and hasn’t made any official public appearances since December 2023. However, recently she made her first public appearance after a long time at the 2024 Trooping the Colour celebrations. Roger Federer and Kate Middleton were spotted sitting together at the Royal Box at the Wimbledon last year. He now hopes to experience a similar thing shortly as well.
Both Kate Middleton and Roger Federer are important figures in this historic tournament. She has attended the Grand Slam event almost every year since marrying Prince William in 2011. Kate Middleton is an avid tennis lover herself and in 2016, she was named the patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club by Queen Elizabeth. Roger Federer, on the other hand, has won this tournament maximum times (8). She has witnessed several triumphs of the Swiss Maestro in this iconic venue. All he now hopes is that “She feels better so that she can be there again.”
Initially, Roger Federer perhaps might have thought of skipping this year’s Wimbledon but now his kids have pushed him to visit yet again in London this year. He has several fond memories surrounding his trip here in the last year. Federer was even spotted playing tennis with Princess Kate before making their presence felt at the Royal Box. Recalling those moments he said, “In that year they wanted to say goodbye to me, but I said: We certainly won’t do that on the pitch. It’s for the players. So there was the proposal with the Royal Box. I agreed with that. Then there were Princess Catherine, my wife, my parents, and my coaches. Those were very touching moments.”

The 42-year-old tennis legend went to express his emotions related to this iconic Grand Slam tournament. He said, “I owe a lot to Wimbledon“. His journey started with a junior title in 1998 and he won his last title here in 2017. This tournament has given him a lot in his career and he’s happy to fulfill the wish of his children to organize a trip together at his venue next month. What did Roger Federer say about getting the chance to watch a match with the Princess of Wales last year?
“It was so fun” – Roger Federer recalling the iconic moments from the 2023 Wimbledon Championships
Roger Federer took his retirement from the racquet sport in September 2022. This was the first time he was attending his favorite tournament officially as a ‘former‘ tennis player. To get the chance to watch the match with the Princess at the Royal Box is a moment he’s going to cherish for the rest of his life. Recalling those moments he stated, “It was so fun sitting next to Princess Catherine. I know her quite well. She is an avid tennis fan, and she plays herself.”
His excitement of sitting next to Kate Middleton clearly reflected through his words, but how does it feel to watch a match from the Royal Box? Federer added, “Sometimes we have to be careful we don’t speak too much. You can talk, and then it’s super-quiet, and then you have to applaud.” Fans now hope both of them keep the iconic tournament enlightened with their presence in each edition.
