Wimbledon LIVE: Tennis results as Andy and Jamie Murray beaten in doubles

Wimbledon: Emma Raducanu on why she ‘couldn’t say no’ to playing mixed doubles with Andy Murray

Andy Murray headlined today’s Wimbledon action as he and his brother Jamie lost in the men’s doubles.

In the final match on Centre Court, Murray began his Wimbledon swansong following surgery to remove a spinal cyst last month. He pulled out of the men’s singles on Tuesday preferring instead to focus on the doubles where he will also feature alongside Emma Raducanu in the mixed event. The Murrays were beaten by Australian pair Rinky Hijikata and John Peers, while five other British players featured across the two main show courts.

British wildcard Jacob Fearnley gave Novak Djokovic a scare on Centre Court after forcing a fourth set, but was beaten by the seven-time champion in a thriller. Harriet Dart stunned British No 1 Katie Boulter in the third-set tiebreak before Jack Draper lost to former British No 1 and Wimbledon semi-finalist Cameron Norrie in another all-British clash on Court No 1.

Wimbledon 2024: Jacob Fearnley 3-6 4-6 2-3 Novak Djokovic*

Djokovic records his own comfortable hold of serve, and it’s back to Fearnley.

The Scot gives Djokovic a bit of a reprieve with a weak smash, but the next shot is a deft volley to put Fearnley ahead.

He then looks to move into the net again, but no volley is needed! His inside-out forehand into the corner is too powerful for Djokovic.

The players trade errors as Fearnley moves to 40-30, but it’s Djokovic’s turn for a well-placed volley. Deuce.

After a fairly lengthy rally, Fearnley drags a backhand into the tramlines. There are sighs around Centre Court. Advantage Djokovic and break point.

And Djokovic cranks up the pressure, eventually forcing Fearnley to flail at a backhand and send it long!

“COME ON!” roars Djokovic. He’s a few games away from victory.

Wimbledon 2024: *Katie Boulter 6-4, 1-6, 2-2 Harriet Dart

Dart’s serve is a little too light and it allows Boulter to fire a return straight past her, but we’re quickly at 15-15.

Another good rally ends in Dart scooping the return past the baseline, and then she does similar again by getting too much power on the return.

Boulter has two break points – she lifts her forehand long on the first, and then misses the line when trying to hook a gentle forehand into the corner.

We go to deuce, where Dart recovers well from Boulter’s shot clipping the net to move up the court and fire a winner into the corner. Nevertheless, we’re at deuce again after Boulter’s backhand down the line.

Boulter has a third break point after returning Dart’s drop shot straight down the line, but she wastes it again after dragging it long for another unforced error.

Dart eventually holds serve after another two unforced errors from Boulter! She’ll be gutted, as it really looked like it could be a turning point at 40-15 up.

Wimbledon 2024: Jacob Fearnley 3-6 4-6 1-0 Novak Djokovic*

Pressure moments at the start of the third set for Fearnley as he faces 30-30, but he survives a tense exchange as Djokovic pushes a forehand wide. The 37-year-old looks unhappy at the surface behind baseline and is not moving freely, but Fearnley takes the hold as Djokovic again pushes long.

Wimbledon 2024: Jacob Fearnley 3-6 4-6 Novak Djokovic* SET!

A half chance for Fearnley as he looks at 15-30 against the Djokovic serve, but a limp forehand into the net is not what he needed.

From there, Djokovic firmly closes the door. Two great serves – the second an ace – sees Djokovic take the second set. A long way back for Fearnley now.

Wimbledon 2024: Jacob Fearnley 3-6 4-5 Novak Djokovic*

Fearnley looked to be heading for a comfortable hold but the forehand breaks down and Djokovic finds himself at deuce and two points from the set.

Djokovic fires wide on the forehand and then Fearnley manages to get his hold as Djokovic misses another. The Serbian will have to serve this out.

Wimbledon 2024: Katie Boulter 6-4, 1-6, 2-1 Harriet Dart*

Two good returns give Boulter hope of a break at 40-30, but she fires a cross-court shot wide and Dart holds serve.

The third game start with an excellent rally that ends with Boulter firing past the baseline once more, and they’re at 15-all.

Another unforced error from Boulter gives Dart the lead, but she levels after guiding past a cushioned volley.

A brilliant serve from Boulter means she regains the lead, but we come to deuce as Boulter hooks another return past the baseline.

This time Boulter forces an error from Dat with a powerful forehand, and she takes the game by rifling a forehand across near the net.

Wimbledon 2024: Jacob Fearnley 3-6 3-4 Novak Djokovic* – BREAK!

Djokovic strikes to take the first break in the second set. A moment was all he needed and Fearnley slumping a backhand into the net to bring up 0-30 was that chance. Djokovic stayed patient, aiming at the Fearnley backhand, and squeezes out two more errors from the 22-year-old.

He breaks as Fearnley finds the net.

Wimbledon 2024: Katie Boulter 6-4, 1-6, 1-0 Harriet Dart*

Boulter takes the lead in the deciding set after crashing a brilliant cross-court backhand past Dart and then winning a great rally with a guided forehand down the line.

Wimbledon 2024: Katie Boulter 6-4, 1-6 Harriet Dart

Dart is now level and entering a crucial third set where she’ll need to lean on her mental resilience and the Asics athlete has credited tennis for her mental well-being.

“I always notice a massive difference in my mental wellbeing and confidence when I’m injured or not training regularly,” she says with Asics now offering free coaching at Emma Wells Tennis.

“While the positive experiences of competition can give me a huge mental boost, playing tennis for fun also uplifts me. I hope others can experience this too through our free training sessions and beyond.”
