What an ovation

Jasmine Paolini is called forward to collect the runner-up shield.

And understandably, the Centre Court crowd erupts for the lovable, little Italian.

Arguably an even bigger cheer for Paolini than Krejcikova as the Czech comes to get her hands on the Venus Rosewater Dish.

Delight for Krejcikova, heartache for Paolini

Oh the highs and lows of sport.

Sheer, unbridled joy for the champion.

She jumps up into the player box to celebrate with her team and family.

Wonderful scenes.

But for the defeated finalist, the pain is clear to see as a tear wells up in her eye.

What a run from the Italian, who won her first match on grass just 17 days ago.

Still, she manages that trademark smile as she sits in her chair, no doubt thinking about that double fault on break point or those missed break-point chances.

Ace. Second Championship point…

Nervy nervy again! A limp backhand slice sinks into the net. Deuce. Paolini nets a backhand return – she knows that was a chance.

Third Championship point… massive serve out wide and Paolini can only send the return well long!
