Wimbledon 2024, July 8 Highlights: Djokovic breezes past Rune, Fritz comes from behind to beat Zverev in five-setter

Seven-time champion and second seed Novak Djokovic defeated 15th-seeded Dane Holger Rune 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 in the round of 16 of men’s singles on the eighth the day of Wimbledon 2024 at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (AELTC), London on Monday.

Thirteenth-seeded American Taylor Fritz came back from two-sets-to-love down to beat fourth-seeded German Alexander Zverev 4-6, 6-7(4), 6-4, 7-6(3), 6-3 in his fourth-round fixture.

Australia’s Alex De Minaur reached the quarterfinals at the grass Major for the first time as he beat rising Frenchman Arthur Fils 6-2, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.

In women’s singles, former champion and fourth seed Elena Rybakina beat 17th seed Anna Kalinskaya after the latter retired hurt.

Elina Svitolina easily defeated Wang Xinyu 6-2, 6-1 to reach the quarterfinal while former French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko beat Iga Swiatek’s conqueror Yulia Putintseva 6-2, 6-3.
