White House sends a special message to the US cricket team ahead of Super 8s in T20 World Cup – WATCH – Times of India
NEW DELHI: When the United States cricket team entered the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, few anticipated their historic journey to the Super 8s. However, they executed their plans brilliantly, securing a place in the Super 8s where they are set to face South Africa at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua on Wednesday.
Ahead of this exciting clash, the White House has sent a special message to the US cricket team ahead of their encounter with the Proteas in the Super 8s.
“Thank you White House National Security Communications Adviser John Kirby for your kind words. We’ll be sure to use your encouragement as motivation for our upcoming matches in the West Indies!,” USA Cricket’s social media handle wrote while posting a video.

The USA, making their debut in the ICC T20 World Cup tournament, began their campaign impressively by defeating Canada by 7 wickets at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas.
Their next challenge came against the 2009 champions Pakistan, where the co-hosts faced a formidable task. Despite being underdogs, the USA came out firing on all cylinders to shock Babar Azam’s team at a packed Grand Prairie Stadium.
The USA bowlers restricted Pakistan to 159 for 7, then levelled that score to force a Super Over. Pakistan’s star pacer Mohammad Amir bowled the Super Over, conceding 18 runs in an eight-ball over to the USA.
In reply, the USA restricted Pakistan to 13/1, clinching the thrilling Super Over and adding two valuable points to their tally.
Following the victory, USA captain Monank Patel elaborated on how his team successfully contained the Green Shirts.
“Winning the toss and the way we bowled in the first 6 overs, we took wickets and kept them quiet. We knew they will take chances after their partnership. We knew we were in the game with 160 to chase, just needed a partnership. Playing in a World Cup, you don’t get a chance to do it every year. We were fully committed to every single ball,” the USA skipper had said.
The USA progressed to the Super 8s of the tournament despite their final Group match against Ireland being washed out due to rain at Broward County Stadium in Florida.
Alongside India, who topped Group A with 7 points from 4 matches, the USA secured their place in the Super 8s by finishing second in the group with 5 points from 4 matches.
