BOSTON – Fans are expected to pack the streets of Boston on Friday as the Celtics are honored for a duck boat parade after they defeated the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Finals. Mayor Michelle Wu revealed details of the parade route on Tuesday.

Celtics players traveled to Miami on Wednesday to celebrate the title, and will be back on New England to end the week with a parade.

“During the parade, Celtics players will celebrate on Boston’s famous duck boats, as is tradition for championship winning teams,” Wu said on Tuesday.

Where will the Celtics parade be?

Wu said the parade will begin Friday at 11 a.m. Duck boats will take off from in front of TD Garden on Causeway Street.

After making the turn onto Causeway, the parade will continue past City Hall Plaza.

The duck boats will also pass Boston Common on Tremont Street.

Finally, the parade will conclude on Boylston Street near the Hynes Convention Center.

The Boston Celtics Shamrock Foundation is raffling off a championship parade experience. One lucky winner and a guest will ride in Friday’s parade and receive a Boston Celtics 2023-24 autographed basketball.

Celtics parade street closures

The following streets will be shut down to cars starting at 12:01 a.m. on Friday. 

• Causeway Street, Both sides from North Washington Street to Merrimac Street
• Staniford Street, Both sides from Causeway Street to Cambridge Street
• Cambridge Street, Both sides from Staniford Street to Tremont Street
• Tremont Street, Both sides from Cambridge Street to Boylston Street
• Boylston Street, Both sides from Washington Street to Massachusetts Avenue

Celtics parade parking restrictions

The MBTA will be increasing service on all transit lines, and paradegoers are encouraged to take the T if possible. 

Heat concerns for Celtics parade

The latest forecast calls for a cold front to move through the area on Thursday night and into Friday morning, bringing an end to the anticipated heat wave. If that happens, temperatures will likely be in the 70s for eastern Massachusetts with a threat of rain showers and thunderstorms.

Those attending the parade are encouraged to use sunscreen and stay hydrated. There will be misting tents at City Hall Plaza and the Boston Common, plus cooling towels to help people beat the heat. 

City of champions

The City of Boston is no stranger to hosting duck boat parades. Millions of fans have lined the streets in the city over the last decade-plus.

The Celtics last won a title in 2008, the Bruins held a Stanley Cup parade in 2011, and the Red Sox were celebrated with festivities in 2004, 2007, 2013, and 2018. The Patriots have kept Boston officials busiest, with six Super Bowl parades since 2000.
