Wednesday works: Stilleto Boy leads 7 on the tab

Stilleto Boy, who hasn’t had a start since finishing seventh in the Grade 2 San Pascual in January, returned to the tab this month at Turfway Park.

The 6-year-old gelding breezed three furlongs in 38.4 seconds, slowest of four at the the distance. It was his second work since the San Pascual after he went three furlongs in 40.4 seconds last Wednesday.

Stilleto Boy, trained by Ed Moger Jr., is 0-for-6 since winning the Santa Anita Handicap (G1) in March 2023.

He was one of seven graded-stakes winners with published works Wednesday.

Stilleto Boy (Shackleford), a Grade 1 winner (2023 Santa Anita Handicap), worked three furlongs in 38.4 seconds at Turfway Park on Wednesday morning. It was the fourth fastest of four works at the distance. His previous work was seven days ago going three furlongs at Turfway Park. In his last start he placed seventh in the San Pasqual (G2) going 1 1/8 miles on the main track at Santa Anita on Jan. 27 for trainer Ed Moger Jr.

Get Smokin (Get Stormy), a two-time Grade 2 winner (2023 Kentucky Turf Cup, 2020 Hill Prince), worked four furlongs in 52.0 seconds at Woodbine on Wednesday morning. It was the 21st fastest of 22 works at the distance. His previous work was six days ago going four furlongs at Woodbine. In his last start he placed fourth in the bet365 Eclipse (G2) going 1 1/16 miles on the synthetic at Woodbine on June 1 for trainer Mark Casse.

Evvie Jets (Twirling Candy), a Grade 2 winner (2023 Ballston Spa), worked three furlongs in 39.4 seconds at Saratoga on Wednesday morning. It was the sixth fastest of six works at the distance. Her previous work was seven days ago going four furlongs at Saratoga. In her last start she placed fourth in the Just a Game (G1) going one mile on the turf at Saratoga on June 7 for trainer Mertkan Kantarmaci.

Background (Khozan), a Grade 3 winner (2021 Longacres Mile Handicap), worked four furlongs in 50.0 seconds at Churchill Downs on Wednesday morning. It was the fourth fastest of seven works at the distance. His previous work was 10 days ago going four furlongs at Churchill Downs. In his last start he placed fifth in a claiming race going 1 1/16 miles on the main track at Churchill Downs on June 19 for trainer Michael Puhich.
