Wednesday Bantering: Shopping Bo and Vlad?

Update:

Today’s lineup:

The Jays refuse to give us news to talk about. However, I expect Chad Green and Francis Bowden (but then Francis has given up 3 runs in the first two innings of today’s Bisons game) to be added to the roster in the next couple of days (the game has gone into a rain delay and has been suspended now).

The team is driving me crazy with this alternating good game, bad game stuff. We need a winning streak to return to .500 (a starting point), and we can’t get there by winning and losing one continuously.

There was a suggestion that the Jays will be shopping Bo Bichette and Vladimir Guerrero if the team doesn’t start playing better.

I’m not a big fan of selling low, but who knows if this is the low point for the pair? If either or both traded, I would want a huge haul. I never think any player is untouchable, but I’d want a lot for Bo and Vlad.

They do seem to be alternating poor starts to seasons. Last year, Vlad had a bad start to the season (and didn’t get much better). This year Bo has gotten off to a crappy start (and has been some better lately). Vlad’s start wasn’t great, but he’s hitting better lately (if he’s still lacking the power we want to see).

Trading them would signal another rebuild, and I’m not sure I have a rebuild in me. I’d have a hard time watching if the team was much worse than it is now.

If the team isn’t back to .500 by July should the team look to trade

CBC has a story up about a young woman (Liz McGuire) getting hit in the head by a foul ball.

Topps is giving her 110 baseball cards with her picture, and he’s also getting a signed ball from Bo Bichette. It sounds like she ended up with a concussion.

“I got my face mashed in … I didn’t even get the ball,” she joked online.

But on Tuesday afternoon, she said she doesn’t actually want the ball that hit her.

“That ball has no joy in it … that’s a mean ball,” she said.

“I feel worse but I look better,” McGuire said. “I feel like trash.”

Be careful out there.

If you are in Vancouver and you want to meet Buck Martinez, you are in luck:

I get emails: FOCO has a full Blue Jays Plaid Apron Set for your summer barbeque season. I think they look sharp. The price for the set is $105 Canadian. Or you can order the pieces separately (I like the apron and gloves, but I can’t see wearing chef’s hat, but that’s me):

  • Gloves: $35
  • Hat: $35
  • Apron: $49

I get all sorts of emails: Bodyarmor Sports Drink has a Vladimir Guerrero ‘collector bottle’ that should be available ‘across Canada.’

I’ve also been reading Roberto Alomar: The Complicated Life and Legacy of a Baseball Hall of Famer by David Ostrowsky, and I’m enjoying it. I’ll likely do a review when I finish it (life has been busy lately, and I’ve taken up this habit of saying ‘yes’ to things, but I’ve been overdoing it lately). Alomar has an interesting story, and Ostrowsky tells it well.
