‘We Need To Think More About Indian Cricket’: Sanjay Manjrekar Left Annoyed With ‘Virat Kohli Obsession’
Ace India batter Virat Kohli, the top run-getter in T20 World Cup history, was expected to replicate his incredible form from IPL 2024, but nothing has worked for him with the bat till now. He has three single-digit scores to his name, that includes a golden duck, and a run-a-ball 24.
‘We Need To Think More About Indian Cricket’: Sanjay Manjrekar Left Annoyed With ‘Virat Kohli Obsession’
Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has said that people need to be more concerned about Indian cricket in general rather than just thinking about ace India batter Virat Kohli‘s form. The Indian team has played quality cricket to remain unbeaten in the ongoing T20 World Cup, but it is Kohli who is grabbing the majority of attention because of his rough patch with the bat.
Kohli, the top run-getter in T20 World Cup history, was expected to replicate his incredible form from IPL 2024, but nothing has worked for him with the bat till now. He has three single-digit scores to his name, that includes a golden duck, and a run-a-ball 24.
But thanks to some brilliant performances from the likes of Arshdeep Singh and ace India pacer Jasprit Bumrah, India have managed to remain unbeaten in the tournament.
“I think we need to think more about Indian cricket and less about whether Virat Kohli is in form or not,” Manjrekar said while speaking on ESPNCricinfo.
Kohli was tested once again in the powerplay against Afghanistan and ended up with a run-a-ball 24, his first double digit score in the T20 World Cup.
Not just Manjrekar, but even India batting coach Vikram Rathour has been disappointed with Kohli’s performance till now.
“I’m not happy. I would love it if he gets going and scores more runs. But yeah, it is good when you are challenged at times. You know, the guys who are not getting too much of batting in India sometimes, they are the ones who put up scores today and our middle-order came to play,” Rathour said.
Kohli, who was the highest run-getter at this year’s IPL with 741 runs, is yet to make a significant contribution in the T20 World Cup. He will be seen in action when India take on Bangladesh in their second Super 8 game of the marquee event.
