Watch: Men’s Tennis 2023-24 Season Recap – Harvard University

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard men’s tennis posted another historic season in 2023-24, reaching new program highs and making another deep NCAA Tournament run. 

After falling in their opening match of the season, the Crimson won five straight matches, including winning the ITA Kickoff to advance to the ITA Indoor Nationals where it would go on to knockoff No. 8 Columbia on their home court. 

The Crimson faced top-notch competition throughout the season with 12 of its 22 total victories coming against ranked opponents.  Additionally, its 22 season wins marks the most for the program with Andrew Rueb ’95, The Scott Mead ’77 Head Coach for Harvard Men’s Tennis, at the helm. 

For the third straight season, Harvard were crowned Ivy League Champions.  After falling to Columbia in a tight match in the second to last weekend of the regular season, the Crimson returned home to defeat Penn and Princeton to claim a share of the conference crown.  First-year Rohan Murali was the hero for Harvard against the Tigers, battling back to take his match in three sets and clinch the title for the team. 

Moving into NCAA action, Harvard hosted the opening weekend for the third straight year and for the second straight season blanked both of its opponents in BU and Michigan State to advance to the Sweet Sixteen.  Harvard would ultimately fall to No. 5 Kentucky in the round of 16 after fighting hard against the Wildcats. 

With the conclusion of team competition, the Crimson continued to be represented by Cooper Williams and Daniel Milavsky at the NCAA Individual Championships.  Williams, a first-year, made a historic run to the quarterfinals of the singles draw, becoming the first Crimson first-year to earn All-American honors since James Blake in 1998. 

While saying goodbye to David Arkow, Ronan Jachuck, Henry von der Schulenburg, and Alan Yim at the conclusion of the 2023-24 season the Crimson are poised for continued success as it welcomes back four of its top six singles players and a top-10 recruiting class.
