Victor Wembanyama in brutal message to NBA fan four years after being trolled

SAN Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama keeps receipts.

Throwback to October 2020, a then 16-year-old Wembanyama had just made his LNB Pro A debut for Nanterre 92 in France.

Subsequently, a post was published on X, formerly known as Twitter, captioned, “16-year-old NBA prospect dominates grown men in season opener in France.”

This was accompanied by a highlight reel of Wembanyama in action.

In response, an X user with the handle @nba_indepth replied, “He not gone do none of that in the NBA.”

Despite not having been tagged in the comment, it seems Wembanyama spotted the naysayers’ comment and kept note throughout the years to come.

Fast forward to 2024, the now reigning NBA Rookie of the Year, All-Defensive First-Teamer, and league leader in blocks decided it was the right time to respond.

“Why not?” commented the 20-year-old on X.

Wembanyama’s unexpected response quickly went viral on social media.

“This is the type of petty I wholeheartedly respect and admire,” one fan commented.

“My level of petty!” replied a second.

“Bro didn’t let it slide,” added a third.

While a fourth responded, “What’s the point of being rich and famous if you don’t rub it into the faces of people you said you couldn’t do it.”

As for @nba_indepth, they described the situation as “Pretty cool,” adding that this served as “proof that I’m an OG Wemby supporter.”

Wembanyama had a rookie year for the ages after being picked first overall in the 2023 NBA Draft.

In 71 games for the 22-60 Spurs – who finished 14th in the Western Conference – the 7-foot-4 star averaged 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and a league-best 3.6 blocks.

He also finished second in Defensive Player of the Year voting behind Minnesota Timberwolves star and fellow Frenchman Rudy Gobert.

Wembanyama has also continued to profit from his fame and success off the court.

In the past year, he has put pen to paper on deals with the likes of Nike and Louis Vuitton.

Last month, during the total solar eclipse, Nike revealed their new logo for Wembanyama’s line.

It features an alien within a basketball, with two Nike logos on either side.

Wembanyama reportedly designed the concept for the logo himself, according to Marca.

Looking ahead, Wembanyama will likely have the opportunity to represent his home nation at the Paris Olympic Games this summer.

Both he and Gobert were named to France’s preliminary squad in May, as per NBA.com.

Wembanyama will return to Paris in January 2025, with the NBA having announced that the Spurs will take on the Indiana Pacers in the French capital city on the 23rd and 25th.
