A request for a city discretionary grant for a local school football team will once again be before city council at Monday’s regular meeting.
WL Seaton Secondary “Sonics” Football requested $20,000 in discretionary grant funding to purchase protective and training equipment for the program.
Staff originally recommended giving the team $13,000, the Finance Committee was requested to have further discussions about the recommendation. The committee is sticking with its original grant recommendation to give the team the $13,000.
It’s the final recommendation for discretionary funding, all other recommendations were approved. Notably, recommendations included four groups receiving no discretionary funds at all:
- Archway Society for Domestic Peace, $10,000
- North Okanagan Pipes and Drums, $5,000
- North Okanagan Valley Orchestra Society, $1,000
- Okanagan Screen Arts Society, $2,715
