UW women pick up commitment from 5-star forward Brynn McGaughy from Colfax

Five-star recruit Brynn McGaughy, a 6-foot-3 junior forward at Colfax High, committed to the Washington women’s basketball team on Wednesday.

McGaughy, who is ranked No. 17 nationally among 2025 prospects by ESPN, chose UW over UCLA, Iowa, Duke and Utah.

She took an official visit to North Carolina and in February her list of 12 finalists also included Oregon, USC, Connecticut, Tennessee, Indiana and Florida.

“I think the main thing for me was the culture and people there,” McGaughy told 247Sports.com. “Their vision for me is really good and the impact I can make when I get there my freshman year will be great. I fit in really good and they feel like family.”

As a sophomore, McGaughy led Colfax, a small town near Pullman, to a 28-0 record. In the 2022-23 Class 2B state tournament, she had 34 points and 12 rebounds in the quarterfinals, 26 points and 20 rebounds in the semifinals and 19 points and 10 rebounds during a 59-52 victory over Okanogan High at Spokane Arena in the championship game.

The Bulldogs finished the 2023-24 season with a couple of losses in the state tournament, including a 44-37 defeat in the quarterfinals, and a 21-6 record.

McGaughy, a Spokane native, is the highest rated recruit to commit to UW coach Tina Langley, who has spent three years at Montlake and led the Huskies to a 16-15 record during the 2023-24 season.
