After a mostly cloudy, rainy, and cooler week, similar weather is expected to continue this long weekend.

Environment Canada issued a weather advisory for severe thunderstorms, warning of torrential rain, hail, possible tornadoes and in some areas, winds up to 100 km/h.

The following regions are impacted:

  • Mississauga
  • Brampton
  • Caledon
  • Halton
  • Burlington
  • Oakville
  • Milton
  • Halton Hills
  • Hamilton
  • Lincoln
  • Durham
  • Pickering
  • Ajax
  • Whitby
  • Oshawa
  • Clarington
  • Courtice
  • Bowmanville
  • Niagara

“Strong wind gusts could cause damage to buildings and down trees and pose risks for large vehicles on the roads. Tornadoes are also possible,” Environment Canada notes on its website.

According to Environment Canada, lightning is a serious threat, causing injuries and fatalities every year with. When thunderstorms approach, it’s safest to seek shelter indoors.

Emergency Management Ontario advises taking cover promptly if threatening weather approaches.

Residents are asked to monitor further alerts on Environment Canada’s website.
