Two local students have been awarded TD Scholarships of $70,000 for their efforts in promoting food sustainability.
Kasey Budgell of Valmont Academy in King’s Point has been very active in the community, working on the development of a community garden and getting the local school and town council on side.
She’s also drafted a proposal, and is serving as project manager of an Earth Sheltered Greenhouse with the Food Producers Forum.
Meanwhile, Leah Casey of Holy Spirit High in CBS has been involved in the Community Garden in CBS, helping to enlist young people to help maintain local gardens and plan events. She also leads the Interact Club which helps to organize community fundraisers and supports the youth-led Fridays for Future global climate movement.
