Surat: Two people, including a mechanical engineer, eyeing a bright future in Australia, have been cheated by an Anand-based man who gave them fake air tickets and sponsorship letters after taking a total of Rs 54.44 lakh from them. The victims, Nikunj Dhivar, an engineer working as a production supervisor in a Silvassa-based company, and his friend Saurabh Patel, lodged a complaint at Bilimora police station against the accused Krunal Patel on Thursday.Patel took Rs 24.44 lakh from Dhivar and Rs 30 lakh from Saurabh.According to details, Dhivar’s Canada-based friend Manish Mistry suggested that he could get a permanent job on a work permit in Australia. Mistry gave Dhivar the reference of Vadodara-based visa agent Aanal Sheth. Sheth in turn gave him the contact details of Krunal Patel saying he had visited Australia and he would help him get the work permit. Sheth also told Dhivar to deal with Patel and pay money to him only. Patel told Dhivar that he had an Australia PR and worked in Alstom company. Patel offered sponsorship letters from his company to Dhivar and Saurabh. After they paid him the entire money, Patel arranged for their medical examination in Ahmedabad’s Apollo Hospital in Dec 2022. He also asked them to keep more balance in their accounts. In early 2023, Patel informed them that their Mumbai-Melbourne tickets were booked and also sent them job confirmation letters through email in Feb 2023.Thereafter, Patel told them that they needed to go for the stamping of documents in Delhi’s immigration office and to meet a person named Joginder Singh there. After a few days, Patel told them the appointment had been cancelled due to some reason and a new date would be given. As both got suspicious, they checked with the Delhi office and found that there was no person by the name of Joginder Singh. On confronting Patel, he admitted to having cheated them. He also told them he would return their moneyHowever, as he kept delaying for some reason or another, Dhivar lodged a complaint.
