Two people are dead after a motorcycle was involved in a crash along Egremont Drive near Strathroy on Saturday afternoon, police say.

The Ontario Provincial Police Middlesex detachment says the crash between a motorcycle and SUV happened at about 1:10 p.m. on Egremont Drive, west of School Road – a rural intersection northwest of Strathroy. The collision shut down the road for the police investigation.

OPP Const. Jeff Hare said the investigation was ongoing and officers were “still trying to determine what happened.” Hare told CTV London the crash should serve as a reminder to all drivers to be aware of what’s around them.

“Everybody has to be aware of their surroundings. Unfortunately with motorcycles, we need to do shoulder checks and we all need to share the road,” he said.

The names of the two people killed were not made public, pending notification of next of kin, police said.

It was just two days ago that a motorcyclist was killed in another Southwestern Ontario crash, this one at Road 96 and 37th Line in Zorra Township, about 10 kilometres southwest of the town of Tavistock.

The deceased was a 65-year-old man from Dorchester, Ontario Provincial Police said. His name has not been made public. An SUV driver suffered minor injuries in the crash, police said.

On June 4, a motorcyclist was badly hurt in a rural collision in the Norfolk County community of Renton. Police said the motorcyclist suffered “life-altering injuries” in the collision with a pickup truck on Cockshutt Road just north of Concession 6 Woodhouse.

On May 29, two people were hurt in a motorcycle collision at the downtown London intersection of Oxford Street and Richmond Street. It happened at about 3 p.m., snarling rush-hour traffic.
