Tuesday tab: Seize the Grey drills ahead of Jim Dandy

Seize the Grey breezed six furlongs over the main track at Saratoga on Tuesday morning ahead of a planned start in the Grade 2 Jim Dandy on July 27.

The Preakness winner, who was seventh last out in the Belmont Stakes, covered the three-quarters of a mile in 1:11.52 seconds and was the only worker at the distance.

Trainer D. Wayne Lukas said his plans for Seize the Grey are geared toward the Travers (G1) on Aug. 24 because of incentives offered by Gainesway Farm as part of its deal to acquire breeding rights to the Arrogate colt.

Seize the Grey was one of five graded-stakes winners with published works Tuesday.

Seize the Grey (Arrogate), a Grade 1 winner (2024 Preakness), worked six furlongs in 1:11.5 at Saratoga on Tuesday morning. It was the only work at the distance. His previous work was seven days ago going five furlongs at Saratoga. In his last start he placed seventh in the Belmont going 1 1/4 miles on the main track at Saratoga on June 8 for trainer D. Wayne Lukas.

Roses for Debra (Liam’s Map), a two-time Grade 3 winner (2024 Giant’s Causeway, 2023 Caress), worked four furlongs in 49.2 seconds at Saratoga on Tuesday morning. It was the fourth fastest of 11 works at the distance. Her previous work was eight days ago going four furlongs at Saratoga. In her last start she placed second in the Intercontinental (G2) going 5 1/2 furlongs on the turf at Saratoga on June 7 for trainer Christophe Clement.

Happy American (Runhappy), a Grade 3 winner (2023 Louisiana), worked five furlongs in 1:02.6 at Churchill Downs on Tuesday morning. It was the 12th fastest of 14 works at the distance. This was his first work since his last race. In his last start he placed sixth in the Hanshin going one mile on the main track at Churchill Downs on June 30 for trainer Neil Pessin.

Highestdistinction (Point of Entry), a Grade 3 winner (2023 International Turf Cup), worked five furlongs in 1:02.2 at Monmouth Park on Tuesday morning. It was the only work at the distance. His previous work was seven days ago going four furlongs at Monmouth Park. In his last start he won an allowance race going 1 1/16 miles on the turf at Keeneland on Oct. 13 for trainer Lindsay Schultz.

Whelen Springs (Street Sense), a Grade 3 winner (2023 Philip H. Iselin), worked four furlongs in 48.2 seconds at Monmouth Park on Tuesday morning. It was the fastest of 15 works at the distance. His previous work was seven days ago going four furlongs at Monmouth Park.
