Tuesday Cheese Curds: How good is the Packers’ roster?
How good is the Packers’ roster?
We’re about to devote an entire season to answering that question. Coaching is all well and good, and the Packers seem to have one of the good ones in Matt LaFleur, but the iron rule of NFL success is that you’ll go only as far as your roster talent will take you.
Exceptions will prove the rule, but the Packers’ success, now and forever, will hinge on their ability to compile talent. So, how much do they have?
According to our first link below, a slightly more than middling amount. The Packers’ starting lineup ranks 13th in the NFL overall, and that feels like a fair gauge for how the league views their overall roster.
Is that accurate? Your mileage may vary, but I’m not convinced. The Packers’ roster right now is highlighted by a high volume of young talent. That kind of roster configuration may not lend itself to a high-powered starting lineup (at least not yet), but the Packers should have plenty of depth at key positions this year. Very soon we’ll see what that kind of depth is good for.
