Toronto sets date for Don Valley West by-election after death of former councillor Jaye Robinson

The date for Ward 15 Don Valley West by-election has been announced after months of going unrepresented.

The vacant seat was occupied by the late Councillor Jaye Robinson from 2010 until she died on May 17.

At its meeting on June 26, city council declared the office of Councillor for Ward 15, Don Valley West vacant and opted to fill the vacancy by holding a by-election, the city confirmed in a news release on Tuesday.

Nominations for a new candidate will open on July 22 at 8:30 a.m. and close on September 19 at 2:00 p.m.

Advance voting will open on October 26 and 27 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. with election day set to take place November 4. Voting locations will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Potential candidates may not incur campaign expenses or accept campaign contributions until after filing nomination papers with the City Clerk, the city’s release stated. 

Further details, including how to vote by mail, will be made available in the near future, the city said.
