Tornado Watch issued for areas northeast of Red Deer

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has issued a Tornado Watch for areas northeast of Red Deer.

Meteorologists say conditions are favourable for the development of funnel clouds and possibly brief, weak tornadoes. Strong winds, large hail and heavy rain are also possible. Officials say the potential for tornadoes will exist until early this evening.

ECCC says Tornado Watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce tornadoes.
