Moments before Hathras stampede

Women and children were killed in a stampede at a prayer meeting organised by self-styled godman Narayan Saakar Hari, also known as Bhole Baba, in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh. Horrifying videos of the incident flooded social media on Tuesday. One such video depicted moments leading up to the stampede, capturing thousands of women and children, some smiling and chanting the baba’s name, with police stationed near barricades.

X user Priya Singh shared the video and wrote, “Most of the people who fall in the trap of such babas are women. Innocent children and women are seen in the piles of dead bodies. This scene is just before the stampede. Look at the crowd. You can understand how widespread this fraud’s web of illusion is.”

Narrow escape

Amid heavy rain in Rajasthan, road users had a close call when a high-voltage electric pole fell on a car in Sri Ganganagar.

A video of the July 2 incident captured by a bystander went viral, showing a white car parked by the roadside during heavy rain and strong winds. Suddenly, an electric pole topples onto a red car driving by. The damaged car stops next to the parked white car, while a man on a scooter narrowly avoids the falling pole. A man from the white car quickly gets out and shelters under a nearby shed.

‘This is why I love @ratantata’

Actor Aditi Khinchi shared a video on Instagram showing a store of Westside, a Tata enterprise, providing shelter to a black stray dog as heavy rain engulfs Mumbai. She also praised Ratan Tata “for his compassion towards dogs”.

No one allows dogs or cats to take shelter in their showrooms.” The video also has the text, “This is why I love @ratantata,” and “Ek hi toh dil hai sir, kitni bar jitogey? (Sir, there’s only one heart, how many times will you win it?) “Then I realised that it’s TATA Enterprises and who owns it 🤎 @ratantata sir thanks so much 🤎 thanks to the staff who was so kind to give shelter to this dog during heavy rain fall ✨Kindness still exists,” her text mentioned. With over 74,000 likes, the video garnered many reactions from Instagram users.
