Three Juveniles Shade :21 at OBS June Under Tack Show

While there was a 15-way tie for fastest one-furlong breeze at the June 5 under tack show for the Ocala Breeders’ June 2-Year-Olds and Horses of Racing Age Sale, three juveniles broke the :21 mark for two furlongs to set themselves apart from the crowd.

Hip 187, a daughter of freshman stallion Tiz the Law   consigned by Tom McCrocklin, agent, worked two furlongs in :20 2/5 to earn fastest work of the day honors. The April 30 foal is out of the winning Dixie Union mare Southern Silence, who has produced four stakes horses from her first five foals, including grade 1-placed, multiple Ohio-bred stakes winner Esplanande , by Daredevil  .

Bred in Kentucky by Newstead, Hip 187 was an $80,000 2023 Keeneland September Yearling Sale purchase and then a $190,000 RNA at the OBS Spring Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training, where she was consigned by Halcyon Hammock Farm.

Hip 189, a filly by second-crop stallion World of Trouble  , was the lone juvenile to record a :20 3/5 clocking Wednesday. Consigned by Sweet River Thoroughbreds, she is the second foal out of the unraced Flat Out   mare Sparkling Beauty, a half to multiple graded stakes winner Prayer for Relief  and multiple stakes winner Twin Sparks .

Twin Sparks, a gelding by Twining, was a two-time stakes winner at Turf Paradise who in 2009 ran six furlongs in 1:06.49, setting a world record on dirt. He also set a track record at Yavapai Downs going 5 1/2 furlongs in 1:01.60 in his second career start. The World of Trouble filly RNA’d at the OBS March 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale for $27,000. She was bred in Kentucky by Jocelyn McKathan.

One other juvenile shaded the :21 mark for two furlongs, and it was another from McCrocklin’s consignment. Hip 206, a filly by Flatter, worked in :20 4/5. She is the first foal out of the winning Put It Back mare Starship Amanda, a half to multiple grade 1 winner and 2024 Canadian Hall of Fame inductee Starship Jubilee  and stakes-placed Starship Nala  and The Flying Whizzer .

Hip 206 was bred in Florida by Mustang Farm and was listed as a $95,000 RNA at Keeneland September.

Fifteen horses worked one furlong in :10 Wednesday. Those breezes can be viewed via OBS’ online catalog, which contains a sortable master index providing searchable pedigree and consignor information as well as access to pedigree updates occurring since the catalog was printed. Under tack videos, walking videos, and conformation photos also are available.

The under tack show resumes June 6 at 7:30 a.m. EST with Hips 351-525 scheduled to work. The breeze shows, which continue through June 9, are streamed live at obssales.com, as well as bloodhorse.com.

The OBS June sale runs June 12-14, with sessions starting at 10 a.m. ET daily.
