Thomas Müller, Bayern Munich’s next Uli Hoeneß?

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss?

Bayern Munich is the club that Uli Hoeneß built, and the legendary figure and former president still sits on the supervisory board. Hoeneß’s long tenure at Säbener Straße has helped ensure cultural continuity for the Rekordmeister, and one way to carry that forward into the next generation is to try to repeat the feat — with a current player.

And who better a candidate than Thomas Müller? The Raumdeuter embodies the Bavarian spirit on and off the field, and as his playing career winds down, he already looks set to be groomed for a front office role.

From Az, via @iMiaSanMia:

important[sic] figures at Bayern see Thomas Müller as a potential boss at the club in the future – either on the supervisory or executive board. It is said at Säbener Straße that Müller is exactly the man who could one day follow in Uli Hoeneß’ footsteps when the latter actually retires. Müller has long been the most important representative of the club — even though he’s still a player. So far, Müller is still not considering this idea in a concrete way — he wants to enjoy his active career as a footballer as long as he’s having fun and can compete at the highest level. Within the club, a possible role for Müller after his retirement has been under consideration for some time

Understandably, that future is far off at present in Müller’s mind. But the day is coming when he will hang up his playing boots — and consider what is next for him with respect to the club where he grew up and starred.
