‘The end of an era,’ CP24 is leaving its downtown studio and relocating to Scarborough this fall

It’s the end of an era for a Toronto news staple. Toronto’s CP24 will be relocating from its iconic 299 Queen Street West location to CTV News’ Scarborough campus, a Bell Media spokesperson confirmed to Now Toronto.

“We can confirm that CP24 and BNN will move to Bell Media’s Agincourt studios to join a news hub alongside CTV National News, CTV News Toronto, CTVNews.ca, and CTV News Channel,” a Bell Media spokesperson shared in a statement.

“The previously communicated redevelopment of our 299 Queen Street campus has been paused.”

The Queen West building, known for the iconic truck protruding from the side of its exterior, is also home to the studios of several radio stations and television shows, including “ETalk” and “The Social”. Now Toronto inquired as to whether these productions will be impacted, but Bell Media did not respond to this question.

TORONTO REACTS

Online, Torontonians are sharing their thoughts on the news. Some residents are less than impressed, saying it’s just another loss to the character of the downtown core.

“Horrible! This building is so iconic, and they are just setting it up to become more condos,” theorized one X user.

“This city has lost so much of what once made it special. Ontario Place, the shops on Yonge street, and now this. We’re on life support,” commented a Redditor.

“I will be so mad if this building soon becomes void of all media outlets and is just turned into more condos in DT Toronto.”

“Absolutely the end of an era.”

Other people have a lot of questions.

“Is the CP24 truck in the wall moving as well to Agincourt?” one X user asked.

“Noooooo Does anyone know the heritage status of the truck? It’s one of my all time favorite public art installations,” asked a Reddit user.

While some people are questioning the impact the move to Scarborough will have on the station’s employees.

“Well, THAT’S going to f**k up a LOT of employees! Agincourt? Where does the transit SUCKS big time?” questioned one person online.

“One way to get some employees… especially from the West end to quit,” said another.
