The 2024 Taunton Daily Gazette Girls Tennis All-Scholastics

Another girls high school tennis season has come and gone in the Greater Taunton area.

Taunton (15-6, 11-5 Hockomock League) led the way locally, qualifying for the Division 1 tournament and sweeping No. 35 Medford in the Preliminary Round before falling to No. 3 Westford Academy in the Round of 32. Bridgewater-Raynham (10-4, 6-1 Southeast Conference) was crowned SEC co-champions and also qualified for the Division 1 tournament but fell to No. 32 Cambridge Rindge & Latin in a back-and-forth Preliminary Round showdown.

Dighton-Rehoboth (4-11, 3-9 South Coast Conference) scored wins over league foes Seekonk, Case and West Bridgewater as well as a non-league win over East Bridgewater.

With the spring season now in the rearview, here’s a final look back at the Greater Taunton area athletes who stood out among the crowd to earn their spot as 2024 Taunton Daily Gazette Girls Tennis All-Scholastics.

Player of the Year

Nicole Kimball, Bridgewater-Raynham

The junior captain once again was the standout tennis player in the Greater Taunton area, going 14-0 from first singles on her way to a fourth straight Southeast Conference MVP award. Praised by coach Bob Peterson as a talented shot maker and competitive player, she now sits at 51-6 for her career. Also a member of the volleyball team, this is the third straight year she’s been named the Taunton Daily Gazette Girls Tennis Player of the Year.

First Team All-Scholastics

Ava Alves, Taunton

The senior co-captain wrapped up a solid high school tennis career going 15-4 at third singles, including a 6-0, 6-0 win against No. 35 Medford in the Division 1 Preliminary Round. A Hockomock League All-Star, Alves was also a 2023 Taunton Daily Gazette Second Team Girls Soccer All-Scholastic and will continue her academic and tennis career at Bridgewater State University.

Ava Olivadesa, Taunton

The freshman went 14-6 largely playing first doubles, but won all of the singles matches she filled in at and earned a Hockomock League Honorable Mention.

Sarah Riveiro, Taunton

The sophomore led the way from first singles, going 14-6 on the season on her way to being named a Hockomock League All-Star.

Morgan Smith, Taunton

The senior co-captain wrapped up a solid high school tennis career going 13-6 at second singles. A Hockomock League All-Star, Smith was also a 2023 Taunton Daily Gazette Second Team Volleyball All-Scholastic and will continue her academic and tennis career at Bridgewater State University.

Eily Mitchell, Bridgewater-Raynham

The junior co-captain put in a solid season at second singles, going 8-3 overall, including a 6-0, 6-3 win against No. 32 Cambridge Rindge & Latin in the Division 1 Preliminary Round, and 5-1 in the SEC. Peterson praised her for her defensive efforts and scoring key points in pursuit of a fourth straight SEC title. Mitchell is also a member of the swim team.

Neely Deschenes, Dighton-Rehoboth

The senior co-captain wrapped up a solid high school tennis career this spring playing mainly at second singles. An SCC Honorable Mention, she’ll be continuing her academic career at Quinnipiac University in the fall.

Leah Hughes, Dighton-Rehoboth

The senior co-captain wrapped up a solid high school tennis career this spring playing mainly at third singles. An SCC Honorable Mention, she’ll be continuing her academic career at UMass in the fall.
