‘That Was An Amazing Game Of Cricket’: Kane Williamson Praises Majestic USA Performance Against Pakistan
New Zealand captain Kane Williamson showers praises on USA following their win against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup.
USA players celebrate a wicket
Pakistan’s loss to the USA sent shockwaves around the world. The 2009 T20 World Cup champions succumbed to a five-run defeat in the super over at the Grand Prairie Stadium on Thursday.
Relying on Babar Azam and Shadab Khan’s contributions Pakistan posted 159 runs on the board. The visitors lost quick wickets at the start and both Babar and Shadab constructed the innings by taking on the USA bowlers.
Pakistan bowlers failed to take up their chances as led by captain Monank Patel USA forced the match to the super over. Monank marshalled his troops with a half-century while Aaron Jones’ fighting 36 kept the co-hosts in the game.
USA took their chances in the super over and some very sloppy bowling from Pakistan helped them to set a target of 19 runs. Saurabh Netravalkar kept his nerve steady as the USA lodged a famous win over Pakistan for the first time at an ICC event.
New Zealand are yet to start their T20 World Cup journey and will face Afghanistan in a tricky test. They named a very competitive squad and will be one of the favourites to grab that coveted T20 World Cup trophy this time.
The Kiwis captain Kane Williamson welcomed ICC’s step to involve more teams in the T20 World Cup 2024.
As quoted by Hindustan Times, “That sort of exposure is only beneficial for all teams.
“When you come to tournament-time anything can happen which is the beauty of the sport.
“But it’s ultimately great for the growth .”
Williamson also revealed he watched the USA vs PAK game and enjoyed the match very much.
“That was an amazing game of cricket.
“In these tournaments every team has really talented players, whether they’ve had experience against test-playing nations or not.
“In some ways, it’s on the day.”
“We’re one of the last teams to start so I know we’re all looking forward to starting off the tournament after spending maybe 10 days or so practising.”
New Zealand will take on Afghanistan at Provudence Stadium in Guyana.
