Tennis Recruiting Network ranks 2024 class No. 12 – Grand Canyon University Athletics

The Grand Canyon 2024 men’s tennis recruiting class was ranked No. 12 on a top men’s mid-major classes poll by the Tennis Recruiting Network.

GCU makes its program debut in the TRN recruiting class rankings, alongside Lehigh Mountain (19) and Pomona-Pitzer (21).

The Tennis Recruiting Network specifically cited two incoming freshmen, 17-year-old juniors star Andreas Loizas of Greece and 18-year-old Finbar McGarvey from Great Britain as reasoning for this ranking, with Lozias boasting a No. 157 International Tennis Federation ranking and a 12.15 Universal Tennis Rating, while McGarvey carries a No. 492 ITF ranking, and an 11.43 UTR.

The The International Tennis Federation (ITF) is the world governing body of tennis. With over 200 member nations, it’s one of the largest federations in world sport, while the Universal Tennis Rating (UTR) is the global tennis player rating system intended to produce an objective, consistent, and accurate index of players’ skill in the game of tennis. UTR rates all players on a single 16-point scale, without regard to age, gender, nationality, or locale of a given match.

These 25 ranked teams stem from 13 different conferences across the country, and highlight 12 states, with the most teams coming out of California.

The West Coast Conference, which GCU will be joining at the conclusion of the 2025 season, asserts the second most rankings as Pepperdine (1), San Diego (2), Santa Clara (11), and Pacific (24) join the pack.

The NCAA Division I mid-major conferences for tennis include programs from the WAC, AAC, Atlantic 10, Atlantic Sun, Big East, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, CAA, C-USA, Horizon, MAAC, MAC, MEAC, Mountain West, Northeast, OVC, Patriot, SoCon, Southland, SWAC, Summit, Sun Belt, and WCC.
