Team India Likely to Meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi After Returning From West Indies – News18

The Indian cricket team is likely to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi after returning from West Indies where they won the 2024 T20 World Cup title after beating South Africa in a last-over thriller. It is understood that senior Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officials will plan the meet and most players are likely to be in attendance as only Sanju Samson, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shivam Dube could be unavailable due to the five T20Is vs Zimbabwe.

PM Modi spoke to captain Rohit Sharma, senior batter Virat Kohli and coach Rahul Dravid on the phone after the win, and congratulated the side for winning their second T20 World Cup title. In a series of posts on social media platform X, PM Modi lauded the side and had special messages for Rohit, Virat and outgoing coach Dravid.

“Dear @ImRo45, You are excellence personified. Your aggressive mindset, batting and captaincy have given a new dimension to the Indian team. Your T20 career will be remembered fondly. Delighted to have spoken to you earlier today,” wrote the PM.

On Kohli, who announced retirement from the format after the title win, PM Modi said the format “will miss you”.
