TCI models shine at Canadian AMTI fashion show

Six models from Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI), recently made waves at the Angie’s Modeling and Talent Inc. (AMTI) Fashion Show held at the Canadian War Museum.

The event marked a significant milestone in their burgeoning careers, providing them with the opportunity to walk the runway and participate in photo shoots alongside international designers and models.

Selena Grant described her initial reaction upon learning she was selected to travel to Canada as one of excitement and gratitude.

“It felt like a dream come true and a remarkable chance to showcase my talents on an international stage,” she said.

Grant stated that upon arriving in Canada, she experienced a mix of thrill and nervousness, overwhelmed by the buzzing atmosphere.

Similarly, Samantha Audain expressed her happiness and gratitude for the opportunity to represent Turks and Caicos Islands on such a significant platform, attributing her preparation and success to Myrna-Lisa’s Myriad Pageant & Entertainment.

On her part, Jenny Louis, described how incredibly grateful she felt when she found out she was selected to travel to Canada for the runway show, adding that the experience of modeling in Canada was quite different from the Turks and Caicos Islands.

“The atmosphere, the fashion scene, and even the weather all played a part in making each experience unique and special in its own way. It was fascinating to see how the two locations influenced the overall vibe of the shows,” she said.

“It was a mix of joy and anticipation, knowing I’d have the opportunity to showcase my work in such a fantastic setting. It was a dream come true! It was unreal seeing that I’m in Canada,” she remarked.

Meanwhile, Marileydi Martinez expressed gratitude to the modelling agency for such an amazing opportunity.

“We got the chance to display Turks and Caicos on the map and show them what we are capable of, but overall, it was truly an honor. This was my first time ever in Canada; it reminded me a lot of Connecticut, but I was overwhelmed with happiness and excitement,” she added.

All the models underwent extensive preparation and training prior to the event. Grant emphasized the importance of her pageant runway training under the guidance of Mrs. Chantel O’Brien, which equipped her with essential skills for the show. She also maintained a strict diet and fitness routine to ensure peak performance.

Audain participated in workshops focusing on stage presence and professional conduct, which she found invaluable in handling the high-profile environment.

Walking the runway in Canada was a surreal experience for both Grant and Audain. Grant described the audience as larger, the lights brighter, and the energy palpable, significantly different from her previous experiences in the Turks and Caicos Islands. For Audain, the highlight was walking for renowned designers and promoting CaicosLuxury, showcasing the talent and beauty of her homeland on a grand stage.

However, they all said that adjusting to the new environment and fast-paced schedule posed significant challenges. Grant noted the importance of time management and staying focused amidst the excitement. Audain, although initially nervous, overcame her fears and felt empowered once she stepped onto the stage.

The experience in Canada has been transformative for both models. Grant learned the importance of adaptability and resilience, boosting her confidence for future international modeling opportunities. Audain realized that patience and perseverance are key, understanding that success requires time and dedication.

The models aspire to further their careers on an international level, aiming to inspire other young women from the Turks and Caicos Islands. Grant advises aspiring models to stay dedicated and continuously hone their skills, while Audain emphasizes the importance of never giving up and being patient.

Family, community, and agency support have been instrumental in their journeys. Grant highlighted the immense encouragement she received from her community and the pivotal role of her agency in providing training and resources. Audain shared similar experiences, expressing gratitude for the mental and physical preparation her agency provided.

One Nation TCI Founder and President, Alicia Swann, expressed her excitement for the event and its potential to become an annual tradition emphasizing inclusivity and unity.

“The ‘One Nation’ pageant was born out of a desire to create a platform where young women from TCI could feel embraced and celebrated for who they are,” Swann stated.

She highlighted the pageant’s core principles of sisterhood, unity, empowerment, and community service, aiming to foster a sense of belonging among all participants.

Swann also shared her optimism for greater participation in the future, bolstered by the positive feedback from attendees and viewers. She emphasized the importance of embracing cultural diversity and called on the community to support the event through volunteering, sponsorships, and active participation.

As plans for the next “One Nation” pageant are already underway, the vision remains clear: to promote unity and empowerment among young women in Turks and Caicos Islands, creating a platform for them to shine on international stages and celebrate their diverse heritage.
