Ace Pakistan allrounder Imad Wasim has admitted that the 2024 T20 World Cup is the lowest point in Pakistan’s cricket and drastic changes are required. He said that things are going to get sorted out in Pakistan cricket, hinting that there will be major changes to the team in the aftermath of the embarrassing exit. Pakistan surprisingly lost to the US and then to arch-rivals India to be eliminated from the T20 World Cup.
Pakistan, the finalists from the 2022 edition, exited the T20 World Cup in the group stage for the first time in 10 years.
Pakistan’s exit was confirmed when US’ match against Ireland was washed out because of a wet outfield in Florida on Saturday.
“Yes, this is the lowest point. You can’t go any lower than this. That’s the fact,” Wasim said at the pre-match press conference ahead of Pakistan’s clash against Ireland.
“Because to be honest, a lot of things are going to be sorted out in the Pakistan team. The chairman and the board will sort it out,” Wasim added.
“Losing to USA, well, losing is a part of the game, but we shouldn’t have lost to USA. Even against India – we had that game in our hands and we shouldn’t have lost. So, there is no excuse for anything. We are losing matches collectively,” Wasim admitted.
The star allrounder said that the changes should be drastic to enable Pakistan to compete with the best in T20s. “It’s not my domain but what I think, that’s what I think, it’s not my domain to do things, but I think there should be changes and there should be a drastic change, so we can move forward and fight with the world cricket how the cricket is playing,” Wasim said.
Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Mohsin Naqvi had said after their loss to India that the side required surgery. They will play Ireland in their final group stage game on Sunday, June 16 in Florida.
