Sydney Wiese Returning To Oregon State Women’s Basketball As Assistant Coach

Former Oregon State Beavers sharpshooter Sydney Wiese is returning to her alma mater as an assistant coach under her old mentor, Scott Rueck.

Wiese was a member of two Pac-12 regular season championship teams under Rueck and led the Beavers to their only Final Four appearance in 2016. She is also Oregon State’s career three-point scoring leader. Wiese was the 11th overall pick in the 2017 WNBA Draft after averaging 5.2 points, 4.9 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game as a senior.

Wiese joins Rueck’s staff with some coaching experience, after spending time with Bella Vista College Prep over the last two years.

“Even as I have been away- playing in different cities, living in different countries- I have never felt more at home than in Corvallis. Through prayer and conviction rooted in deep belief toward this university, it is a privilege to commit to Oregon State a second time- as an assistant coach for the women’s basketball program,” Wiese said in a blog post for OSUBeavers.com

Wiese is the second member of the 2016 Final Four team now serving as an assistant on Rueck’s staff. Deven Hunter has also been on staff since 2021.

Oregon State are looking to build on some momentum from the 2023 season. The Beavers reached their first NCAA Tournament since 2021 and made their first appearance in the Elite Eight since 2018.
