Surge In Risk Of Stroke Among Young People Linked To Lifestyle – WE News English

ATLANTA: A recent study in the United States reveals a significant rise in stroke incidence among young and middle-aged individuals worldwide over the past decade. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the primary causes of stroke include obesity, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and physical inactivity, all of which have contributed to the increasing stroke rates among younger populations.

Symptoms of a stroke can vary but often include sudden numbness or weakness in the face, arm, or leg, particularly on one side of the body, as well as confusion, trouble speaking or understanding speech, vision problems, difficulty walking, loss of balance, and severe headache with no known cause.

American experts analyzed data from thousands of individuals across various states to study stroke rates and demographics. Their findings indicate a 15% increase in stroke risk among younger individuals over the past 10 years, with strokes now affecting individuals as young as 18 years old—a notable shift from past trends where strokes were more common in older adults.

Experts attribute this rise to various lifestyle and health factors, such as poor diet, lack of physical activity, and increased stress levels. They recommend that younger adults adopt healthier lifestyles, including regular physical activity, a balanced diet rich in fruits and vegetables, routine health check-ups, and effective stress management to reduce the risk of stroke.
