Johannes, who returned from an 11-month layoff to go 2-for-2 in graded stakes this year, worked five furlongs in 1:00.0 Sunday morning at Santa Anita.

It was the fifth fastest of 70 works at the distance.

The 4-year-old Nyquist colt started last year with wins in two stakes for trainer Tim Yakteen before finishing fifth in the American Turf (G2) on the Kentucky Derby undercard. He then was off until April 4, when he won the American (G3) at Santa Anita. On May 27, he returned with a win in the Shoemaker Mile (G1).
