Summer Game Fest 2024 coverage – Civilization VII announced

E3 may be gone, but it’s not forgotten, as the trend of a massive Summer video game showcase still lives on in the form of the Summer Game Fest. Promising two hour of announcements and trailers, there will be a lot to see in the presentation. If you’re interested in tuning in live, you can catch the show on YouTube and Twitch, when it kicks off at 5pm ET/10pm BST. The host of Summer Game Fest made an official statement clarifying that while there will be some new games shown, viewers may need to adjust their expectations, because a bulk of the presentation’s content will focus on updates for pre-existing games.

The first show is a LEGO game that features Aloy from Horizon Zero Dawn. Holiday 2024. Horizon LEGO Adventures. It won’t just be on PS5, but PC and Switch as well. It has a focus on couch co-op.

Torn Banner, of Chivalry fame, is next. No Room in Hell 2 is their newest project. 8 player co-op. Zombies. PC, launches Halloween, Epic and Steam.

A Harry Potter game is next. It’s Quidditch focused. Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions, launches console and PC on September 3rd.

Cuff Bust is a prison break game with cutesy koala-like creatures. They’re called Jailiens. A team group has to work to get out of jail. 2025.

Star Wars Outlaws has a new trailer…but expect to see more during Ubisoft’s own showcase later this month.

From the creators of Gris comes a new game about a girl and a wolf cub. There’s puzzle platformer elements. It’s called Neva and will be out later this year.

Civ VII is coming next year. Will have a simultaneous console launch with the PC version.

Black Myth: Wukong launches August 20.

Once Human launches July 9th. Multiplayer open world survival.

Warhammer Space Marine is out this July as well.

Atlus’s latest game takes the stage. Metaphor Re: Fantazio. We get an English gameplay and story trailer for the game. Out October 11th.

Batman Arkham Shadow is a new game in the Arkham series, and it’s a Meta Quest exclusive VR game. Batman takes on the Rat King. Out this Fall.

We’ve got a fighting game up. An animated trailer for Fatal Fury…except it cuts to Street Fighter halfway in. M. Bison, Terry, and more, join Street Fighter VI’s new DLC.

Tears of Metal is a Scottish-based action game. You fight through hoards of enemies, and have a party alongside you. It’s also a roguelike.

Dragon Ball Z Sparking Zero is next. Catch some high energy Tenkaichi style action with the newest gameplay showcase. There’s new What If stories to play, like Krillin dying during the Raditz fight, or Vegeta and Trunks killing Cell instead of Gohan. October 11th.

We’ve got a military FPS in the form of Delta Force: Black Hawk Down.

Fatal Fury is next, for real this time. City of the Wolves launches early next year.

Mechs aplenty in this new game. Lots of intricate designs. Summer closed beta coming this summer…the game is called Mecha Break. It’ll have ground and air combat, sort of like Armored Core.

Crisol Theater of Idols, Grave Seasons, Sleep Awake, Fear the Spotlight, The Simulation, and Project C are all horror indie games being published by movie studio Blumhouse under their new video game label. There’s lots of different spooky experiences for whatever kind of horror genre you like.

Power Rangers is getting a new game, It’s an old school throwback arcade sprite beat-em-up. Rita’s Rewind, coming to Steam.

Deer Boy is a new 2D game.

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 is coming. Releases this year.

Neon cyberpunk themed game is next. 3D action combat, where you fight freaky bug horror monsters. You can get your limbs cut off, but they reattach. November 8. Slitterhead.

There’s this game with weird potato creatures, with bullet-time third-person combat. Launches early access this summer.

Surpass your limits in this new game where it’s a climbing challenge. It seems to be an experience about overcoming struggles while climbing a mountain to its peak. Cairn is the title.

Why be a fighter when you can run a tea shop? That’s the concept of this game. Has a calming Harvest Moon vibe to it. Wanderstop. Davey Wreden is making this–creator of The Stanley Parable. There might be a darker twist. PS5 and Steam this year.

Unknown9 Awakening is a 3D game where you seem to be able to posses people. Only you can enter this special mind controlling dimension, and must fight a secret society that wants to take over the world.

Enotria The Last Song is out Sept 19. It’s a Souslike.

The First Descendant has a grappling hook and is set in space. There’s a big spectacular cinematic trailer. Launches July 2 for PC and consoles.

Among Us devs are next. Outersloth is their latest project. They want to give back to the community after success with Among Us. They want to create a better most sustainable industry to help indie devs.

They released a massively rapid fire trailer chock full of small indie games that got funding through this new studio. You can see the full list at outersloth.com.

Among Us is getting a TV show, too.

Sonic X Shadow Generations is here. We can see some of the levels from Sonic Heroes, Sonic 06, and Shadow the Hedgehog. October 25.

Dune stuff. MMO.

Anime style art kicks off the next trailer. Battle Aces. It’s an RTS, meant to be easy for newcomers, but also still relevant for hardcore gamers.

The Finals Season 3 is here. It’s free to play. The map is set in Kyoto.

Remedy Entertainment is next. Alan Wake II is getting a physical collector’s edition this Fall. Pre orders go live tomorrow. Expansion content is on the way, too. Night Springs DLC will drop tomorrow.

New World is getting the Eternum expansion. PS5, Xbox, and PC on October 15.

Magic spells, skeletons, medieval themes, and dragons. Dark and Darker. Free to play on Steam and Epic.

Kunitsu-gami: Path of the Goddess is out July 19th.

Hyper Light Breaker will go into early access this summer.

The new Skate game has a trailer.

Palworld has a new trailer. New Island. New Pals. Xbox is getting dedicated servers. There’s new things to build and a new level cap. There’s new subspecies of Pals. New places to explore. New boss fights. June 27.

Valorant is getting content.

There’s a very extended trailer for a mobile game, without featuring any gameplay. It’s called Squad Busters.

Monster Hunter is here, to revitalize the crowd. Launches 2025, on Xbox, PS5, and PC. There’s going to be a trailer, but more to come at Gamescom as well.

Phantom Blade 0 is the final game of the day. S-Game is the developer. It’s a big Soulslike.
