Stratford’s golf course forced to close due to torrential rainfall : My Stratford Now

Stratford’s torrential rainstorm forced a golf course to close down Thursday.

Kyle Brodhagen, general manager of the city’s municipal golf course, tells MyStratfordNow that one inch of water per week is good enough for the average course.

“So with the rainfall, we saw four inches yesterday through the whole day, and then with it being dry already, there’s just nowhere for the water to go,” says Brodhagen.

“So it’s just sitting on top right now.”

Normal operating hours are from 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. for golf, and 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. for the driving range.

Brodhagen hopes to reopen the course for walkers by Friday. He said that if the course continues to drain properly, they can get the carts out.

To address drainage issues, Brodhagen says there’s a pump to drain the water, and they’ve added more drainage to help with additional rainfalls.

Safety isn’t a major concern, but golfers may get their wet feet.

“Hopefully, we’re open tomorrow and people can walk and dodge the few puddles that are left,” he says.

The team is working hard to ensure the course is ready for golfers, he says.
