State Games of Mississippi Junior Tennis Competitions

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) – Some of the action from the last day of State Games went down at Northeast Park Tennis Center.

The junior division of State Games tennis showed up and showed out in some doubles and singles matchups.

Standard tennis rules applied, and doubles players played a pro set, which is a first to eight games series.

Tennis tournament director for the State Games of Mississippi, Pete Mazzella, says that state games tennis is great for kids and helps keep them stay active.

“This year we had a good turnout. We had 62 participants we had from as far away as Cummings, Georgia. We had a few from Louisiana. So, it was a pretty good draw. Everything ran smooth, no weather issues. It’s great for the kids because it’s it keeps it, you know, our tennis season just ended about a month ago high school tennis season, and it just gets them back out. They’ve had a little break, gets them back out so they don’t, you know, just set their rackets down [until] the next tennis season and it keeps them active.” Said Mazzella.

Many local players that participated in this year’s State Games tennis will now transition into playing in junior league games starting next Thursday.
