Starfield player uncovers hidden gameplay mechanic 10 months after launch

The title launched late last year

Despite releasing in 2023, Starfield is still offering up brand new discoveries to players.

One Reddit user posted a clip that displayed them (in a modded ship) drifting due to the gravitational pull of the sun, a feature that has remained extremely well hidden since the game launched late last year, and one that wasn’t advertised by developer Bethesda.

Several commenters on the post were shocked by the revelation, with many not even realising that stars actually have a gravitational pull to them. It’s especially interesting to consider this since you can’t free fly and land on a planet without going through a series of menus first, so this level of attention to detail is wild to see from the game.

“The fact that you can see the gravitational pull of the sun on your ship is sooooo amazing, I love this game,” one player posted in the comments.

Our reviewer called Starfield a “interstellar playground exceeding all expectations”.

Starfield is without a doubt a monumental release – and not just because it’s Bethesda’s first new IP in 25 years. Ever now and then, a new game comes along that changes our perception of what the industry is capable of. Starfield is that game. This is beyond what we’ve come to know an open-world to be. Bethesda has created a universe that, despite its vast scale, maintains interest and an impressive attention to detail throughout. The journey you embark on will dazzle you, and I have no doubt that players will be gripped for months, perhaps even years to come. Here is a playground where you can be whoever you want to be. I simply cannot stop thinking about Starfield and the wondrous secrets it still holds,” our reviewer wrote.
