Spring all-area series: Here are the 2024 Athens-area high school tennis players

The final installment highlighting the best spring sports athletes in the Athens area brings us to tennis.

Athens Academy was the only boys team to make it to the championships, but they fell runner up to Landmark Christian after going 3-0. Oconee County was the only girls team to do the feat as well, but they fell runner up to Wesleyan after also going 3-0.

Other teams that accrued playoff berths were Athens Christian boys, which lost in the first round; Prince Avenue Christian and Commerce boys, which lost in the second round; Prince Avenue Christian and East Jackson girls, which lost in the second round; Oconee County boys, which lost in the second round; North Oconee boys and girls, the former which lost in the semifinals and the latter in the first round; Madison County girls, which lost in the quarterfinals; Clarke Central girls and Jefferson boys, which lost in the first round; Clarke Central boys and Jefferson girls, which lost in the second round; and Jackson County girls and boys, which lost in the second round.

The area continues to produce quality talent. Here are the 2024 Athens high school all-area tennis players.

Boys first-team

Athens Christian

Benson Bailey, senior

Bailey, who is continuing his career at Emmanuel University, had a 10-3 record this season and was selected as part of the first-team all-region. He led the Eagles to states three of his four years on varsity and was their No. 2 singles player.

Clarke Central

Patrick Allen, senior

Patrick Allen was 11-2 overall and 6-0 in region this season. He was 1-1 in the playoffs and named the singles region player of the year.

Cormac Allen, sophomore

Cormac Allen was 13-2 overall and 6-0 in region this season. He was 3-1 in the playoffs and named to the first-team all-region.

Noah Stewart, sophomore & Cash Meyer, freshman

Stewart and Meyer were a doubles team that went 14-0 overall and 6-0 in region this season. They were 3-0 in the playoffs and named region doubles team of the year.

Connor Miller, sophomore & Alex Cho, freshman

Miller and Cho were a doubles team that went 7-1 overall and 4-0 in region this season. They were 1-1 in the playoffs and named to the second-team all-region.

Commerce

Mason & Jackson Brown, freshmen

The Browns were a doubles team that went 12-0 overall and 5-0 in region this season. They were named to the first-team all-region.

Jacob Meissner, junior

Meissner went 12-5 overall and 6-2 in region this season. He was named to the first-team all-region.

Bennett, who is signed to continue his career at Truett McConnell, went 10-9 overall this season and was given an all-region honorable mention.

North Oconee

Beasley was named the region player of the year for Region 8-4A.

Champ Blose, junior

Blose went 16-5 overall and 9-0 in region play this season. He was voted region player of the year for Region 8-3A.

Smith went 19-2 overall and 11-0 in region this season. He was named to the first-team all-region.

Rohan Patel, sophomore & Vance Patterson, freshman

Patel and Patterson were a doubles team that went 15-5 overall and 10-0 in region this season. They were named to the all-region first-team.

Hannon went 10-4 overall and 4-0 in region this season.

Lane Woodall, freshman

Woodall went 6-8 overall and 3-1 in region this season.

Flynt went 11-4 overall and 4-0 in region this season.

Ward and Bahnsen were a doubles team that went 4-0 in region and 2-1 in the playoffs this season. Ward was 7-4 overall and Bahnsen was 9-3 overall.

David and Robinson were a doubles team that went 5-2 overall and 3-1 in region this season. They were 2-1 in the playoffs and given all-region honorable mentions.

Flath was 7-6 overall and 2-3 in region this season. She was 2-2 in the playoffs and given an all-region honorable mention.

Sears was 11-4 overall and 3-2 in region this season. She was named to the first-team all-region.

Smith went 10-4 overall and 6-0 in region this season. She was named to the all-region first-team.

Fuller went 8-6 overall and 5-1 in region this season. She was named to the all-region first-team.

Isobel Summerour & Emma Coulter, freshmen

Summerour and Coulter were a doubles team that went 9-4 overall and 4-2 in region this season. They were named to the all-region first-team.

Madison County

Reece Williams, senior

Williams went 16-5 overall on the season and was named to the all-region first-team.

Addison Peeples, senior

Peeples went 19-3 overall on the season and was named to the all-region second-team.

Lexie Gillespie, junior

Gillespie went 21-1 overall and 12-1 in region this season. She was 2-0 in the region tournament and 3-0 in the state tournament, helping the Red Raiders make a deep run for the first time since 2002 (to the Elite Eight). She was named to the team’s MVP and was added to the all-region first-team, just four points behind the Region 8-4A Player of the Year Erika Terek.

Katie Dixon & Ava Harden, juniors

Dixon and Harden were a doubles team that went 16-4 on the season. They were named to the all-region first-team.

Miller and Veit were a doubles team that went 24-0 overall and 11-0 in region this season. They were named to the first-team all-region.

Prince Avenue Christian

Purvis went 11-3 overall and 4-0 in region this season.

Evie Carter, junior

Carter went 8-2 overall and 4-0 in region this season.

Caroline Seagraves & Landry Hill, seniors

Seagraves and Hill were a doubles team that went 4-0 in region and 3-0 in the playoffs this season. Seagraves was 7-2 overall and Hill was 10-3 overall.
