Vahva picked up another graded-stakes win on Saturday and earned last week’s highest speed figures in the process.

The latest win for the 4-year-old Gun Runner filly came in the Grade 3 Chicago Stakes at Churchill Downs. With Irad Ortiz Jr. riding for trainer Cherie DeVaux, Vahva covered the seven furlongs in 1:21.02 to win by 1 1/4 lengths. She earned a 104 Brisnet Speed Rating and 99 Beyer Speed Figure for her effort.

Vahva’s last six starts have come in graded stakes, with four wins, a second and a third. The wins include the Derby City Distaff (G1) on the Kentucky Derby undercard.

Second on the list this week is Misty Veil, who earned a 101 Brisnet rating and 105 Beyer for her win in the listed Lady Jacqueline at Thistledown. With Ramon Vazquez riding for trainer Mike Maker, the 6-year-old Tonalist mare covered the 1 1/8 miles in 1:50.04. That was slightly faster than the 1:50.20 for Batten Down in the Ohio Derby earlier on the card.
