South Carolina women’s basketball will host Duke on Dec. 5 for SEC-ACC Challenge

COLUMBIA — South Carolina women’s basketball will host Duke for the 2024 SEC-ACC challenge on Dec. 5.

The 2024 national champions will play the Blue Devils for the second straight year. Duke hosted South Carolina in the Jimmy V Classic in December last season with the Gamecocks winning 77-61 win.

In last season’s challenge, South Carolina defeated North Carolina, 65-58.

Overall, the Gamecocks have a 7-2 record over Duke, dating back to the first match up in 2001. Duke is coached by Kara Lawson, who is in her fifth season with the Blue Devils, after being an assistant in the NBA with the Boston Celtics. Duke finished 22-12 last season and lost in the NCAA tournament to UConn in the Sweet Sixteen.

The two programs have two former players on this year’s 2024 U.S. women’s basketball Olympic roster, A’ja Wilson and the former Blue Devils guard Chelsea Gray.

Wednesday’s announcement is one step closer to the entire schedule for the 2024-25 basketball season. So far, the Gamecocks have released various nonconference games and dates, in addition to all the SEC teams they will face this upcoming season.

  • Nov. 4 season opener vs. Michigan in Las Vegas
  • Nov. 10 vs. NC State in Charlotte, North Carolina
  • Nov. 24 vs. UCLA in Los Angeles
  • Dec. 5. vs. Duke in Columbia

This season, the Gamecocks will host Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Kentucky, LSU, Oklahoma, Texas, and Texas A&M. The Gamecocks will face Auburn, Georgia, Mississippi State, Missouri, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Texas and Vanderbilt on the road.
