South Africa vs Nepal Live Score, T20 World Cup 2024 Match Today: Chasing a target of 116 runs against South Africa, Nepal came within a few metres (and one run) of getting their first victory over a full-member nation. After starting the final over in the group stage match against South Africa needing eight runs to win, they brought the chase down to the final ball, needing just two runs for victory. But as they batters ran for a bye to level the scores, a throw at the stumps from keeper Quinton de Kock hit the batter Gulsan Jha and fell kindly into the hands of South Africa’s Klaasen who promptly completed the run out with Jha a few metres outside the crease. Heartbreak for the young Nepal team at the end.

Nepal were always looking solid to chase the paltry total but it was a superb 18th over from Tabraiz Shamsi, where he claimed two wickets including that of set batter Aasif Sheikh (42 runs), that brought the Proteas back into the game. Thanks to the win, the Proteas head into the Super 8 stage undefeated.

On paper, South African batters managed to score their highest total of the T20 World Cup 2024 on Saturday. But in the first innings of the T20 World Cup group stage clash, Nepal really reined in the South Africa batters in. While bowlers like Kushal Bhurtel (4/19) and Dipendra Singh Airee (3/21) got the wickets for Nepal, it was Sandeep Lamichhane (0/18) and Sompal Kami (0/6) who restricted the Proteas’ scoring, thereby inducing mistakes from them as the African team slumped to 115/7 in their full quota of 20 overs. Nepal had won the toss and asked South Africa to bat first in a Group D encounter.

The last 16 months have been a journey to remember for a lifetime for Nepal cricket. So much so that in Nepal’s pop culture, their cricket team has become hot property with a couple of leading artists from the Himalayan country, releasing albums for them. To put things in perspective, just like how ‘Rally Round the West Indies’ and ‘Dil, Dil, Pakistan’ would be blaring out of the speakers when the former champions walk on to the field, Nepal will have its own “Hami Nepali” sung by Tanka Timilsina and Anita Chalaune.
