Severe thunderstorm watch falls on Waterloo Region

A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for Waterloo Region, with the potential for high winds and heavy rainfall throughout the afternoon and evening on Saturday.

According to Environment Canada, winds could gust up to 100 km/h in Kitchener, Waterloo, and Cambridge today, with the potential for torrential rain and the risk of a tornado.

The weather service added that thunderstorms are expected to be isolated, but could develop into organized lines of thunderstorms later in the afternoon.
